Search indexes and availability

Email search uses local mailbox data and the OpenSearch index. Initial import alone does not make full-body search complete. Wait for the required indexing readiness state.

Database search uses stored text and previews. OpenSearch can also search full bodies. Before returning candidate matches, the service checks them against the current authorized canonical content. Locked encrypted content can require an owner-key unlock. See encryption keys.

For a stale or incomplete index, an operator can rebuild the projection from canonical storage without deleting mailbox data. Do not erase a mailbox or storage volume because a result is missing.
