Manage automatic-reply cases from chat

In Complexity, select your own mailbox and enable the relevant case tool. Each action needs chat access, a MailGen license, tool selection, and a separate group grant. See enabling agent tools and automatic-reply setup.

ToolOperation permissionCompanion permission
startAutomaticReplyCasesmail.automaticReplies.cases.startmail.automaticReplies.manage
muteAutomaticReplyCasemail.automaticReplies.cases.mutemail.automaticReplies.manage
resolveAutomaticReplymail.automaticReplies.cases.decidemail.automaticReplies.manage

Request these permissions separately. Definition management does not automatically grant lifecycle access. Sorting grants do not replace automatic-reply grants.

Tools can start cases, mute a case's email notifications, or record the owner's decision. Starting and muting require specific leading words in the current user message:

  • Start with Start or Run, optionally after Please. For example: Start automatic replies for these messages.
  • Start with Mute or Silence, optionally after Please. For example: Mute this automatic reply case.

The check ignores case and permits leading whitespace. A different opening phrase can return AUTOMATIC_REPLY_USER_APPROVAL_REQUIRED, even if it mentions starting or muting later. A decision uses your stored message text. The model cannot invent a decision on your behalf.

In draft delivery mode, starting directly admits the cases for processing. In send mode, the chat first displays a proposal containing exact messages and rule state.

Approval of a send-mode start requires the run to use an active, owned, verified Microsoft mailbox binding. See Microsoft Graph setup. This restriction belongs to send-mode start approval. It does not make every lifecycle operation Microsoft-only.

Review and approve the send-mode proposal separately. Changed rules or source messages invalidate approval. Automatic sending also requires mail.automaticReplies.send. That send permission is not required merely to start draft-mode processing or mute a case.

Follow the resulting case and existing draft. Admission alone does not mean generation or sending completed.
