Search contact catalogs from chat

In Complexity, select your mailbox and enable the appropriate contact search. Each tool needs its own permission and group grant, along with chat and product access.

searchDirectoryContacts searches organizational people, guests, and groups. searchExternalContacts searches external contacts. Both use the catalog available to the run's selected mailbox.

Learning about an organizational entry does not grant access to that person's mailbox or messages.

Personal contact management uses separate tools.

If no accessible entry appears, check catalog readiness and source permissions. To find messages for an accessible contact in your own mailbox, use contact mail reading.

Queries contain 1–100 trimmed characters. Pages contain at most 20 entries. Directory category defaults to directory and also accepts guest or group.

Directory reads need contacts.membersFromDirectory.readinfo. External reads need contacts.externalAndOthers.readinfo. The server checks access before and after the read. Results include readiness, partial status, and the next cursor.
